ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL (December 19, 2016) – IEST, the Secretariat to ISO Technical Committee 209 (ISO/TC 209), Cleanrooms and associated controlled environments, announces the availability of ISO Draft International Standard (DIS) 14644-3: Test Methods. This new draft Standard, which is available from iest.org, sets out appropriate test methods for measuring the performance of an installation, a cleanroom, or an associated controlled environment.
This will be the public’s first look at the revised test methods of the ISO 14644 series following the historic revision of ISO 14644-1: Classification of air cleanliness by particle concentration and its companion monitoring document ISO 14644-2: Monitoring to provide evidence of cleanroom performance related to air cleanliness by particle concentration. ISO/DIS 14644-3 updates “textbook” guidance that has been in use since 2005. Performance tests are specified for two types of cleanrooms (unidirectional and non-unidirectional) in three occupancy states (as-built, at-rest, and operational).
To advance knowledge of the revisions, the IEST Learning Path training program is hosting the ISO 14644 Fundamentals Certificate in Pasadena, Texas from February 28–March 2, 2017. The certificate series includes a full-day Application of ISO 14644-3 training course with an in-depth examination of test methods for characterizing the performance of cleanrooms. The course explores the practical application of the standard in certifying a clean space. An open forum will provide opportunities to discuss how to implement the standards, the revisions, what may or may not work in different types of cleanroom environments, and primary equipment. Registration for this course is now open on the IEST website and will include a copy of ISO/DIS 14644-3. The ISO 14644 Fundamentals Certificate also includes training on ISO 14644-1 and -2, as well as ISO 14644-5, which addresses cleanroom operations.
ISO/DIS 14644-3 is being reviewed globally by ISO/TC 209 national member bodies during the three-month Draft International Standard ballot. In the US, technical experts should provide feedback to IEST as the Administrator to the United States Technical Advisory Group (US TAG) to ISO/TC 209.
